At Ysgol Y Castell our vision is for our learners and parents to experience a seamless transition from primary to secondary school. We devote considerable time and effort to make the transition from primary to secondary education as smooth as possible. Throughout the year, we have a full programme and this includes a range of sample days and taster sessions, enabling children to experience the school day, make new friends and meet the teachers. The more familiar a child is with their new surroundings, the less likely they are to feel anxious. Therefore, our comprehensive and supportive transition programme is designed to facilitate the move from primary to secondary and ensure it is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Students leaving Ysgol Y Castell at the end of Key Stage 2 usually leave to join Glanymor or Queen Elizabeth High School to continue their educational journey. If you are considering sending your child to St John Lloyd Catholic School in Llanelli, in addition to applying via the county website, parents are asked to complete the school paper application form as well.

At the age of 11 your child will move to Secondary school. You must make an application for the Secondary School of your choice, there is no automatic transfer from a primary to a secondary school. When your child is in the last year of primary school, you will receive a notification during the Autumn term with information on all Secondary schools in the county and how to apply.
