Criw Cymraeg

Ysgol Y Castell have been awarded the Bronze and Silver award in Cymraeg Campus and this year we are working our way towards earning the Gold award. The Criw Cymraeg are vital on this journey as well as the interaction of the parents and community. The Criw Cymraeg are chosen by the children in each class at the beginning of the Autumn term. We have 2 representatives from each class, from year 1-6.

Y Criw Cymraeg have an important role within the school. Some of their jobs include:

Helping to promote a Welsh ethos and the Welsh language.

Ensuring that pupils enjoy learning Welsh through daily 'Helpwr Heddiw' sessions and weekly Welsh lessons.

Encouraging pupils and staff to communicate through the medium of Welsh and rewarding them with ‘tocyn iaith’.

Ensuring that pupils understand that Welsh is an important part of our culture.

Leading Welsh assemblies monthly and any special day assemblies.

Helping to plan and organise special Welsh celebration days/events such as Shwmae Day, Dydd Santes Dwynwen, Dydd Gwyl Dewi, Yr Eisteddfod etc.

Who are we? Pwy rydyn ni?

There are currently 14 members in our Criw Cymraeg from our Phase 2 and 3 classes.

We chose to join the Criw Cymraeg because we are very interested in improving the use of Welsh in our school and in the community.

Our aim is to improve the amount of Welsh used throughout our school and to increase the amount of Welsh displayed throughout the school!

What do we do? Beth rydyn ni’n wneud?

We meet every week to count our ‘tocyn iaith’ for each class. The class with the highest number earns extra play.

We share our own ideas in our meetings and on our Google classroom and talk about the agendas for improving Welsh.

We have an active role in encouraging all pupils and staff in using everyday Welsh and promoting our Welsh culture.

During our weekly meetings we discuss the Patrwm yr wythnos and go back to class and share it with the teacher and our peers.

We share ideas on how we can celebrate special days e.g. Shwmae day, Diwrnod Miwsig Cymru, Dydd Gwyl Dewi etc.

We lead Welsh assemblies monthly and lead special assemblies on the special days.
